Sports Law

The sports market and its regulation are distinctive. In part, sport is regulated by its own norms and norm systems, for example the transition rules in football or the doping rules, which require specialist expertise. The second part of sports law includes the application of traditional legal disciplines, such as employment law, tort law, intellectual property law, company law, tax law and immigration law. Good advice in this part of sports law requires both breadth of expertise and special knowledge of special rules and considerations that are relevant in this market.

In Svensson Nøkleby, we have the necessary specialist expertise and the breadth of the team that is necessary to deliver effective assistance to both commercial and non-profit players in sports.

In the team we have Ronny van der Meij, who specialized in international sports law through studies in Madrid. Among other things, he has extensive experience in assisting football clubs, footballers, coaches, special associations and has also received an international award for his work on the regulation of the player agent market. In addition, we have lawyers who contribute to sport in their role as head of the ethics committee in the Norwegian Skiing Association, who have written a dissertation on the doping regulations, and who are specialists in tax and excise law.
